Hello, I’m Hub Blanchette from Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada. My journey into photography began in my 50s after a vacation in Mexico, where I was captivated by the beauty of humpback whales but lacked the equipment to capture their magnificence. Upon returning home, I dedicated myself to learning the art of photography, studying under some of the world’s top photographers and investing in the necessary gear to capture stunning images in any situation. People often ask about my photography style. I believe a photographer’s style is ever-evolving, shaped by continuous learning and new techniques. My passion lies in creating images that evoke memories or remind you of places you once called home. My goal is to capture each scene in its best light, producing photographs that you would be proud to display in your home or office. The most celebrated masterpieces of neoclassical sculpture, "The Three Graces", carved by the Italian artist Antonio Canova between 1814 and 1817. About the Sculpture * The Subjects: The three figures represent the daughters of Zeus—Euphrosyne (mirth), Aglaia (elegance), and Thalia (youth/beauty). * The Design: Unlike traditional versions where one figure faces away, Canova designed them in a close-knit embrace with interlocking arms to symbolize unity and friendship. * The Material: It is carved from a single slab of white marble. Canova was famous for his ability to make hard stone look like soft, lifelike flesh. A Bit of History This particular statue was commissioned by the Duke of Bedford after he saw a first version Canova had made for Napoleon’s wife, Josephine. It was originally housed in a specially built "Temple of the Graces" at the Duke's estate, Woburn Abbey, before being saved for the nation in 1994 to prevent it from being sold abroad.
